Transport Paralysed in Migori as Matatu Operators Block Kiringi Bridge Over Delayed Repair of Migori Bridge


Transport operations in Migori County were brought to a standstill after matatu operators staged protests and blocked Kiringi Bridge, the only available alternative route following damage to the main Migori Bridge.

The operators accused authorities of taking too long to reconstruct the damaged bridge, arguing that the delay has negatively impacted transport services, increased travel costs, and caused major inconveniences for both motorists and passengers.

The blockage of Kiringi Bridge led to severe traffic disruption, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded and affecting the movement of goods and people in and out of Migori Town. Long queues of vehicles were reported on both sides of the bridge as transport operators demanded immediate government intervention.

The protesters called on the relevant agencies to expedite the reconstruction of Migori Bridge, saying the current situation is hurting businesses, public transport operators, and residents who depend on the route daily.

Local businesses have also expressed concern over the prolonged disruption, warning that continued transport challenges could negatively affect economic activities in the region.

Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive statement on when the reconstruction of the damaged bridge will be completed, even as pressure mounts from transport stakeholders and residents for a lasting solution.
